Printers & Card Readers

Pair a Star Micronics receipt printer and a Stripe Terminal M2 card reader with the OpenPOS Terminal app; Tap to Pay is coming soon.

Last updated October 12, 2026

The OpenPOS Terminal app prints receipts and kitchen slips on a Star Micronics printer and takes in-person card payments on a Stripe Terminal M2 reader. You set both up in the app, under Actions › Settings.

Where to find it

  1. Turn the printer on. Pair a Bluetooth printer in the iPad's Settings › Bluetooth, or connect a Wi-Fi printer to the same network as the iPad.
  2. In the Terminal app, open Actions › Settings › Receipt Printer, tap Select Printer and pick yours. Turn on Auto Printing, choose Customer Receipt, Kitchen Slip or both, and tap Print Sample.
  3. Charge and turn on the M2 reader. Open Actions › Settings › Reader Terminal, turn on Accept Payment and tap Connect.
  4. Check Reader Status, then run a small test payment.

Good to know

  • Receipt printers are Star Micronics only: the TSP143IIIBT (Bluetooth) or the TSP143IIIW (Wi-Fi, best when several iPads share one printer). Order the M2 reader from Stripe.
  • Tap to Pay on iPhone and iPad is coming soon and isn't available yet; until then, in-person cards go through the M2 reader. The Kiosk app takes cards on an M2 reader too.
  • Card payments use the Stripe account you already connected; see Payment & payout setup.
  • Each new order prints once, when the Terminal receives it. To print it again, open it and tap Print Receipt. No printer? Customers still get their receipt by email or text.
  • Coming soon: orders scheduled for later will print when it's time to cook them. Until then, a scheduled order prints when it arrives.

If something's not working

  • Nothing prints? Check a printer is still selected in Receipt Printer and Auto Printing is on, then use Print Sample.
  • No readers found? Keep the reader on and close to the iPad, and tap Connect again.
  • Still stuck? Email [email protected].
